Ball valves are widely used in various industries due to their simple structure, flexible operation, and excellent sealing performance. Ball valves are primarily composed of the following components:
- Valve Body: The main part, made from materials like cast steel or stainless steel, contains a circular passage for the ball to rotate and control fluid flow.
- Ball: The core part, usually made of stainless steel, has channels for fluid passage, which can be full-bore or reduced-bore.
- Seals: Made from materials like PTFE or rubber to ensure sealing between the ball and seat, available in soft and hard types.
- Seat: Contacts the ball to form a seal, can be fixed or floating to adapt to pressure changes.
- Stem: Connects the operating mechanism to the ball, usually made of corrosion-resistant materials like stainless steel.
- Handwheel or Actuator: Operates the ball valve, either manually or automatically (electric, pneumatic, etc.).
- Connectors: Such as flanges and threads, used to connect the ball valve to the pipeline system.
- Packing: Seals between the stem and valve body to prevent leaks, made from materials like asbestos rope or PTFE.
- Bonnet: Protects the packing and stem, can be fixed or removable.
- Positioner (optional): For precise flow control.
